Parading for a Cause

In San Francisco’s Castro district each December, scantily clad and hugely exhilarated men and women make the annual partly unplanned trek about town.
Oh so San Fran, and oh so fun, the annual Santa Skivvies event is produced by and benefits the San Francisco Aids Foundation.  It begins and ends at Lookout: 3600 16th Street.   The sheer freedom is inescapable as the seemingly endless frenzy takes on Castro, in a blur of red and green and white fur.   IMG_2289 IMG_2290 IMG_2294 IMG_2295 IMG_2296 IMG_2297

  1. Nice one! Saw this via the Word a Week Challenge. San Fran is such an eclectic city, but I’m surprised how pale and wan a lot of these folk are given the sunny Californian climate – almost as pale as us Brits 🙂

  2. Oh my….cheeky! Looks like Santa Skivvies is a good time though! A little different from the colour run I did last year! Think I will stick to colour!

  3. I came across a naked bike ride when I was in San Francisco earlier this month. I don’t think there’s anywhere else in the world this could happen!

  4. There is a World Naked Bike Ride which takes place in March each year. Rides have happened in London, Melbourne, Sydney and Cape Town as well as San Fran, although local public decency laws decree how ‘naked’ naked can be. Not sure I’d want to ride a bike with no padding 🙂
